Where can you fill up?

The UK is the most interconnected fuel card market. The big oil brands accept each other's cards, independent networks span almost every forecourt, and supermarkets are reached through those networks.

    No UK supermarket issues its own fuel card. fuelGenie: 1,350 Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons stations; fuelGenie+ adds most Shell and Welcome Break (2,300+). Allstar Supermarket+ covers all four majors (not listed here). UK Fuels lists Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Asda Express.1210118

Multi-brand networks (span the groups)

  • Allstar One 7,700+ sites (over 90% of UK fuel sites): major brands, supermarkets and Discount Diesel locations.7
  • UK Fuels card 4,700+ stations across 98% of UK postcode areas, incl. Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Asda Express. Other cards on the UK Fuels site list Asda Express too.817
  • Keyfuels card (Direct / Pay-as-you-go) 3,500+ multi-branded commercial sites (900+ for HGVs): selected supermarkets, motorway service areas, oil company sites and truckstops.9

Cross-refuelling in short

bp and Esso have accepted each other's cards since 2016, and bp, Esso and Shell all list Texaco and Gulf as partners, so one oil-company card already covers most of the majors. The catch is price: Esso charges 3% at non-Esso sites, and Texaco's The Business card adds 1p a litre at BP. Supermarkets come through the independent networks. Truck cards such as Esso Truck, Shell CRT and bp Plus Bunker give up network breadth for fixed prices.4186
